Your St. Charles contractor

St. Charles has some of the oldest homes in the county. Around historic Main Street and in Frenchtown, you'll find houses that have stood for well over a century, with brick walls, plaster, old framing and the quirks that come with them. Working on those homes takes patience and attention to detail. Floors aren't level, walls aren't square, and what's behind the plaster is often a surprise. Shane is on the job himself, so the person making decisions is the one who looked at your house.

Away from the historic districts, much of St. Charles is subdivisions built over the last several decades, and those homes need what any aging house needs: roofs, siding, updated bathrooms and kitchens, and dry, finished basements. We handle all of it, and we're about 20 minutes away by I-70 or Hwy 364. You get one contractor who answers the phone, shows up when he says he will, and charges a fair price without nickel-and-diming you along the way.

What we keep an eye on here

  1. 01

    Historic home details

Older homes near Main Street and in Frenchtown often have plaster walls, solid trim and uneven floors. We repair and update them carefully instead of tearing out character that can't be replaced.

  2. 02

    Historic district review

Exterior changes in the city's historic districts may need extra review before work starts. We help you sort out what's required and handle the permit process with the city.

  3. 03

    Older foundations

Some older St. Charles homes sit on stone or brick foundations that let moisture through. We find where water is getting in and address it before finishing or repairing anything below grade.

Shane is the most professional contractor I have ever interacted with for a job. From the first time calling him to the time he left my property he was 100% sincere with everything he did. We requested to put on a new roof on a shed and fix a rotted floor. He recommended putting some extra TLC into the shed including siding and some other work. We didn't think it was possible due to the age of the shed. When he hit some roadblocks with extra issues dealing with the project, he kept his cool. He even worked in a non-shaded area, with a heat index over 110 degrees with no breaks. His employee had the same mentality and I could see his dedication as well. He was younger in age, but Shane educated him along the way. I could tell he was helping to shape the next generation of contractors. Shane was trying to put the love of the work back into the job rather than just completing the work. He told us the new problems we didn't know about and quickly addressed them. He didn't get upset by me asking questions and even gave detailed answers to my questions. If you want a person who shows the ability and love of his work, hire this company. I felt as if I hired a family member even though we never met before since he truly took ownership of his work. His prices are beyond reasonable and he doesn't charge for an extra screw or a random material other contractors charge customers. He is truly the old fashion worker your grandparents tell you about from back in the day. When I discussed future jobs with him he gladly said he would handle it. No job is too big or small for Shane. If someone would ask if I would hire him back, I would say 100%. He even warranties his work for years and you can't beat it.

FAQ

Hiring a contractor in St. Charles

Do you handle permits in St. Charles?

Yes. When a project needs a permit, we handle the permit process with the City of St. Charles or St. Charles County, depending on where you live. If your home is in a historic district and the work changes the exterior, we help you find out what review is needed before anything gets started.

Will you work on a house that's over 100 years old?

Yes. Older homes take more care, not less. We expect out-of-square walls, framing that doesn't match modern lumber sizes, and patched-over repairs from past owners, and we plan for them. Shane will look the house over, tell you plainly what he sees, and work to keep the details that make an older home worth owning.
